Spring! Really?

Here in Central Florida the arrival of the almost chartreuse leaves of elms and cypress began several weeks ago. We believed the signs and anticipated the warmer weather. It slowly reached into the 70s.

Yesterday, I awoke to 42 degrees F. Now, I know for some of you that would be a welcome warming, not for me!

Peter Tea comes to Central Florida.

I followed and totally enjoyed Peter's blog from Japan (where he spent almost 5 years studying bonsai.) I added a wonderful quote from his teacher, Mr. Tanaka, on 'rules and bonsai pots' to my site.

His friend Sam Edge in California said - "First and foremost Peter is one of the nicest individuals you will ever meet. Humble, gracious, an incredible since of humor – and very talented."

I'm looking forward to seeing Peter at D&L nursery in the Ocala National Forest, he will also be visiting the Kawa club.

Sad News from the European Bonsai Forum

"It is with great sadness that we announce Harry Tomlinson died early Sunday morning the 2nd of March 2014. As you may know Harry had been suffering from Alzheimer's for a number of years."

Many of you may have Harry's 'Complete Book of Bonsai' in your collection.

As stated on the cover it is "A Practical Guide To The Art & Cultivation Of Bonsai," and an excellent one.

Harry was one of the early European bonsai teachers and he was considered one of the best of his time.

Tropical Mimosa Revisited

This month I received an updated picture of the shohin Tropical Mimosa on my site. It was good to see it again, and see how Ben Liss has continued to improve a less than perfect starter!

Two New Bonsai-Mary Pages

I put off writing the Azalea Bonsai page , as I had never had any personal experience with them in South Florida.

Eventually, I realized I couldn't leave out one of the most beautiful and popular flowering bonsai trees in the entire world!

Nebari is another page that was overdue. I like the way it turned out, what do you think?
