Thank You for Subscribing
If someone sent you this issue of Bonsai Banter, it's a monthly newsletter. If you like what you see, please sign up!
How many times have you tried to defend bonsai against the "torture" accusations?
How do ideas like that get started anyway?
Perhaps scenes like this one at Willowbog Bonsai Nursery help!
Willowbog is set in one of the most picturesque parts of the Northumberland National Park in northeast England.
Peter and Jean Snart set up this hoist to help with the large bonsai they create.
To outsiders this must be a scary site, to bonsai artists ... what a great idea!
No Hiding in Mt. Dora
As you may know, I live in a tiny, hilly town in the middle of the state of Florida. Locals laugh about the fact you can't just stop by here along your way, you must make it a point to come here.
That being the case, it's always a surprise when I am approached by bonsai contacts from the past. The first time it was the son of an old friend while crossing the street downtown.
Another time, I stood up to leave a small cafe (crowded with tourists for the art festival) and someone shouted out "Hey aren't you the bonsai lady?" It was a gentleman who had seen me give a program at Bonsai West near Boston MA. (Quite a few years ago.)
Last month I was checking out the Sunday Farmers Market and someone yelled across the park "Mary Miller, is that you?" It was a pleasure to chat with a couple who had been visitors to my Bonsai Bench nursery in Miami, way back when.
Apparently I'm not the only one who loves this town!
BonsaiMary MailA big thanks for all my readers'comments. I do appreciate them!
I recently changed the "Wheel bug" description on the Beneficials Page, thanks to a suggestion from Rita Greenberg.
"I just wanted to let you and your readers know that if they see a wheel bug (Arilus cristatus) to handle it with caution as their bite is more painful than a bee sting."
A Colorful New Page
It surprises me how often people ask
"Do bonsai ever have flowers?"
So I wrote a page called (what else?)
Bonsai Tree Flowers.
Pages You May Have MissedWith over 100 pages on the BonsaiMary site, there are some that seem to be deeply hidden. Here are just two of them.
If you ever get confused with European and American bonsai measurements ... on the Bonsai Wire page there is a very useful link to a Metric Calculator.
I often get asked "How did you get started?" Find a brief outline on my bonsai history page.
ThanksgivingIn the USA we celebrate Thanksgiving Day the last Thursday in November.
I know many Bonsai Banter readers are not in the U.S., celebrate anyway!
Enjoy the foods of your choice and be sure to let those you love know how much they mean to you.
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!
